Second annual holiday party brings Horizon Housing tenants together
The holiday season is upon us, and is a special time of year to give thanks, celebrate and get into the spirit of the season.
On Saturday, December 13, Horizon Housing Society shared the holiday spirit with guests at the second annual Tenant Holiday Party. In its first year, the event was extremely popular which meant a bigger venue for 2014 with more space to share in the fun and festivities. Over 200 tenants, staff and volunteers gathered at Venu 1008 in Inglewood to ring in the holidays.
Tenants arrived on four party shuttle buses from seven apartment buildings throughout the city and were greeted with a holiday wonderland, complete with twinkling lights, sparkling trees and the welcoming sounds and smells of Christmas. There were many smiles as guests enjoyed food and drinks, music, gingerbread men decorating, door prizes and even a theatrical magician!
Tenant Terrah Johnson believes the party is more than just a fun afternoon. “It means a lot knowing people care for you and make an effort to help you feel welcome. It was a great event and I’m glad I went,” she said.
Brownlee LLP sponsored the photo booth station and had several staff come out for the day to volunteer. “The Brownlee staff were thrilled to be able to participate in such a worthwhile event,” said Brenda Blanchfield, Office Administrator at Brownlee LLP. “It was a fun experience and Horizon Housing did a great job creating a fantastic and seasonal atmosphere full of warmth, kindness and the holiday spirit.”
Bob Patrick, a tenant from Bob Ward Residence, volunteered to dress as Santa, delivering gifts and goodies to party guests. “I love playing Santa at Horizon Housing’s holiday party. The expressions of joy and good wishes from my neighbours makes it all worthwhile.”
Through RESOLVE, Horizon Housing will be adding an eighth apartment building to its portfolio – meaning that over 200 more people will have a home as well as a community to celebrate special holidays with all year round.
Events like this allow staff, volunteers and tenants to interact in a casual setting, build meaningful relationships and create strong connections. The party inspires a sense of community and welcome that is so important during the holiday season, a time of year that embodies a spirit of giving and goodwill among friends, family and neighbours.
